Ceremony CD
In the summer of 2018, two songwriters met and formed a friendship and a musical partnership. The chemistry was instantaneous. They called upon names they knew one by one until there were seven Emme Woods, Luke Boyce, Jack Boyce, Jack Borrill, Jenny Clifford, Juan Laforet, Scott Flanagan. The following three years were dedicated to writing and arranging songs and piecing together a live show. The Joy Hotel played their first at The Blue Arrow in Glasgow, which sold out through wordofmouth alone, as did their next three hometown headline performances at McChuills, King Tuts and St. Lukes, doubling the venue size with each show and selling every ticket they put on sale. They took the act to festivals across the U.K. Hidden Door, Doune the Rabbit Hole, Connect, TRNSMT, Twisterella, Latitude, Sound City, The Great Escape and to Europe France, Malta, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands. In October of 2021, the band spent eleven days at Rockfield, the legendary studio in Monmouth, Wales, recording livetotape. When they left, they had a sound. It is often contradictory, in that it combines the songwriting sensibilities of pop and country with arrangements reminiscent of the psychedelic scene of the 60s, sixpart vocal harmonies with elements of noise rock, beautiful balladry with a sense of humour, and is cinematic even when stripped of any visual aspects. The result of those eleven days is Ceremony, their forthcoming debut album, due for release in the summer of 2024 under So Recordings. This will be accompanied by a short film documenting the creation of the album called Come The Ringing Bell.

Life Ceremony
From the author of international bestseller Convenience Store Woman comes a collection of short fiction: weird, out of this world and like nothing you've read before. An engaged couple falls out over the husband's dislike of clothes and objects made from human materials; a young girl finds herself deeply enamoured with the curtain in her childhood bedroom; people honour their dead by eating them and then procreating.Published in English for the first time, this exclusive edition also includes the story that first brought Sayaka Murata international acclaim: 'A Clean Marriage', which tells the story of a happily asexual couple who must submit to some radical medical procedures if they are to conceive a longed-for child. Mixing taboo-breaking body horror with feminist revenge fables, old ladies who love each other and young women finding empathy and transformation in unlikely places, Life Ceremony is a wild ride to the outer edges of one of the most original minds in contemporary fiction.

Dub : Finding Ceremony
The concluding volume in a poetic trilogy, Alexis Pauline Gumbs's Dub: Finding Ceremony takes inspiration from theorist Sylvia Wynter, dub poetry, and ocean life to offer a catalog of possible methods for remembering, healing, listening, and living otherwise. In these prose poems, Gumbs channels the voices of her ancestors, including whales, coral, and oceanic bacteria, to tell stories of diaspora, indigeneity, migration, blackness, genius, mothering, grief, and harm.Tracing the origins of colonialism, genocide, and slavery as they converge in Black feminist practice, Gumbs explores the potential for the poetic and narrative undoing of the knowledge that underpins the concept of Western humanity.Throughout, she reminds us that dominant modes of being human and the oppression those modes create can be challenged, and that it is possible to make ourselves and our planet anew.
